Buy Powered Subwoofers

An Active Subwoofer assists with the speakers in your setup. A Subwoofer plays the bass line and kick drum from a track only, Normally Subwoofers only play sound from 40Hz to 120Hz , and all the other sound from 121Hz to 20kHz is then played through your top active speaker. You would purchase a subwoofer if the subline in your music is not punchy enough, or you need more power in a bigger venue, then a subwoofer is the speaker for you!

Subwoofers are normally quite large and can be on the heavy side, some subwoofers castors can be attached to the back, to make it easier to wheel in and out of venues. Subwoofers are normally placed on the floor.

Powered Subwoofers are also referred to as Bass Bins as they produce a lot of bass! One thing to remember is not to push your bass bin to hard, as doing so can damage the speaker, and also it can sound very poor, Maintaining an even level across all speakers is the correct way to setup and use your Sub.

Subwoofer FAQ

What is a Active Subwoofer?

Subwoofers are speakers that produce bass and the low end of a song. Active Subwoofers feature an amplifier inside, so it only requires power from the mains and signal from your mixer to get started!

How do I connect a Active Subwoofer to my setup?

The Subwoofer should be the first speaker that you connect. The fist thing you need is a power cable to connect the Bass Bin to the mains, Then from your mixer you go into the Subwoofer’s input first, then from the output of the subwoofer you connect into the input of your next speaker and so forth.

What Bass Bin is good for a DJ?

There are many sizes in subwoofers from a 10” driver all the way through to an 18” driver, and also subwoofers come in different power from 200w through to 2000w. It really depends on what your doing, a bedroom DJ may want a small 12” 200w Subwoofer, however a professional DJ may need a 18” 2000w Subwoofer. Whats better, a Passive Subwoofer or an Active Subwoofer?

Both Subwoofers produce great sounds. Active Subwoofers have the amplifier built inside and are normally heavier because the amplifier is inside. Passive Speakers don’t have an amplifier and require this to be purchased separately, Passive Speakers need the amplifier to work, so that’s an additional piece of equipment to bring with you to a gig, Passive Speakers are normally smaller too, Active Speakers can just be plugged in straight away with normal XLR Cables, however Passive Cables normally require Speakon or Jack Leads to connect to. Overall both speakers have their plus points!
